The Lido district, Funchal
Unfortunately this beautiful area has deteriorated by too much new hotel constructions and there is nothing left of genuine Madeiran atmosphere. If this development and exploiting
goes on like in the Canary Islands, it can result in decreasing tourist flow also to Madeira. Who doesn’t enjoy nice scenery - and not like this?
Among numerous hotels in this area ALTO LIDO
was our choice on this trip - conventional and nothing extraordinary. Friendly staff and generally well-equipped rooms. This hotel runs timeshare
apartments as well as normal hotel rooms and there are always a lot of charter travellers also from the Nordic countries. The location is not at the sea-front but you have a glimpse of the ocean from the narrow balconies. Traffic noise from the main road just outside the hotel does not harm too much. The hotel provides complimentary transport to and from downtown. The hotel has lately also introduced a "Sala Internet" for the guest’s convenience! Lodging a lot of Scandinavians the non-smoking rule has been accustomed in the restaurant - smokers has better chose somewhere else to dine!
