As you can see from the map, the islands of Kökar are situated SE of Mariehamn and SW of the Korpo-Nagu archipelago.
Kökar is Finland´s southernmost commune with a population of 320 people. Total area is 804 km² of which land is 57 km².
The voyage from Korpo by regularily operated boat takes apprx. 2,5hrs.
The first inhabitants were sealhunters already 1000 BC. In the Middles Ages fishing was an important source of income.
Interesting sights:
Kökar church from 1748 and the ruins of a Franciscan chapel built during the 15th century.
