Göta Kanal is called the Blue Ribbon of Sweden and is one of the major tourist attractions.

It combines the east and west coasts of Sweden. The channel itself is 190km and runs through the lakes Vänern and Vättern.
The work started by Baltzar von Platen with the permission of Karl XIII in 1810 and was ready 22 years later.

Today Göta Kanal is mainly used by tourists vessels. One of the most interesting parts is the route Karlsborg-Töreboda which also was our choise on our first visit on June 9th 2001.
The best way to experience the channel if by own boat but it takes time and money. We had only one day so we cruised the route up and down.

M/S Sandön
is a classic ship, built 1910 in Gothenburg. Restaurant and cafeteria on board.
