When the weather in Finland gets
intolerable in the autumn, this year we plan to escape to the Balearic
Islands! At our last trip to Mallorca
in 1995 we noticed that the island had had a "facelift" since the time
of it’s popularity as a common charter destination. Today the Balearic
islands are also popular among individual tourists looking for quality
and peaceful environments. The weather conditions should
be still favourable in November and the flight times from Scandinavia
within my tolerance. See map

Both islands we visited were right
in their off-season with just a few tourists. Some restaurants were closed
for the season and beaches deserted. Still we enjoyed this instead
of the crowds in the Canary Islands.Weather was reasonably good with sunshine
most of the days and temperatures a little above +20°C in daytime.
As a matter of fact there is not so many places to chose in the Mediterranean
area if you insist of travelling abroad in November when the weather is
as it’s worst in Finland. Despite the fact that I recently
had suffered from a brain stroke we went
on the trip that had been planned months ago. My right arm and hand was
paralysed and disabled and I had some difficulties using fork an knife
when eating and could not, of course, drive a car with manual gear. To
my luck my wife Inger is an experienced driver so she was driving all together
close to 1000km during two weeks while I sat in the co-driver seat with
the map in my lap. My big problem was how to use
the camera with one hand! I solved it my holding the camera upside down with
the left hand and pressing the exposure button with my thumb. It was not
an ideal way to snap and in some pictures there might be some unsharpness
due this. But I got something for this website anyway.
